Howdy folks,
How’s 2012 been treating y’all so far? Have to say that other than a random moment here and there, this year has been fantastic. We’ve gone to the gym every day this year! Just you wait until you see us again, you won’t recognize us

I love January, especially the first two weeks. They hold such amazing promise for the coming year….so innocent, full of hope and joy. Sigh. So things have been really quiet here in Round Rock so I thought, just to mix stuff up a little, I would start throwing in some headlines that I read the last few weeks that have just irritated the snot out of me.
For instance, there is the news that LEGO is coming out with a line just for girls. Girly LEGO.
And the haters are already screaming that this is crossing the line of sexism. Really people?
Coming up with toys geared towards boys or girls is now sexism? Really? Because Barbie is NOT geared towards girls only and GI JOE does not market to boys? WTH is happening here? There is nothing wrong with making something specifically for one sex. This whole politically correctness, this “men and women must be equal in all aspects” crap has gone a little overboard if you ask me. Last time I checked the numbers of UNISEX bathrooms were not increasing by much and I am pretty sure that if Newt Gingrich would go #1 in a ladies room there would be an outcry. So you cannot have your ladies room and equality too. It is baloney. Lincoln logs are geared towards boys. Anatomically INCORRECT Barbies are aimed at girls and if you don’t like it THEN DON’T BUY IT! Until the day comes when your husband does not get upset because little Billy wants Barbie’s Dream house from Santa, and a gay Miss America is as pretty as a straight one I think LEGO is the least of our worries.
I think.
The other news item that irked me to no extend this week was the fact that an American/Iranian citizen was sentenced to death in Iran.
The 28 year old former Marine is an American, born to Iranian parents and wanted to visit his grandmother and relatives in Iran. Because that sounded like a REALLY good idea? Because so many Americans go for holiday to Iran. And then he got arrested and we are all OUTRAGED and shocked. And I am asking myself: “WHY ON EARTH DID HE GO IN THE FIRST PLACE???” Iran does not like us. If you haven’t figured this out by now…you need help.
These are NOT nice people; there is NO Club Med in Tehran. Really, there isn’t. Unless you are there for something other than your grandmother’s cooking…..hmmm?
So why on earth do you think that you visiting your grandmother is a good idea? Why did the three hikers think it was a good idea to go hiking in the mountains of Iraq by the Iranian border? You know what? Go climb the Swiss Alps, they are just as stunning and you will not cause an international incident. When will we realize that Americans are not really a Gift from God to the world wherever we CHOOSE to go? It doesn’t work that way. SOME PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE US. THEY NEVER WILL.
Where in all of this lies personal responsibility??? What responsibility does HE have for having made a really dumb decision, well a stupid decision, really.
I am sure that there are many, many Americans who had relatives living all over Europe during WWII. Somehow I doubt if many made the trip to Germany in 1943 for an extended visit. It is called COMMON SENSE, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
But now the State department is involved, YOUR tax dollars at work, and a whole bunch of people are going to have to pull all kinds of strings and heaven knows what else because you had to go visit your grandmother. Perfect.
Honestly, there are days where I really do think we should just tax the stupid people. A “Stupidity Tax” seems like such a reasonable way to go.
With 2012 being an election year and all, I think y’all might be in for a fun ride this year with me.
Love ya,
Sven

Have you read (or listened to) Dom Joly’s “The Dark Tourist: Sightseeing in the World’s Most Unlikely Holiday Destinations?” It is absolutely hilarious. He actually went skiing in Iran a couple years ago, for vacation. He is, however, British.
Great blog Sven. Up to your normal caliber. A very good read!
